Neocis wants to provide surgeons a way to make dental implant surgery more reliable and flexible through its FDA-cleared robot as demand for implants is set to increase rapidly

The dental implant and prosthetic market is one of the fastest-growing markets in the U.S. Equally thriving is the surgical robotics market, which is estimated to reach $20 billion (€18.8 billion) across several medical markets by 2021. Combining both medical fields is Yomi, which is intended to provide assistance in both the planning (preoperative) and the surgical (intraoperative) phases of dental implant surgery.

The FDA has approved “game-changing” technology that provides pre-operative and intra-operative guidance for surgeons performing dental implant procedures. The robotic navigation system from Neocis — called Yomi — can reduce surgery time and improve accuracy compared to procedures performed free-hand, said Neocis CEO Alon Mozes.

Robotic medical device developer Neocis said today it won FDA 510(k) clearance for its Yomi robotic guidance system for dental implant procedures, touting it as the 1st of its kind to win a nod from the federal watchdog.

Alon Mozes worked at a number of young companies, including MAKO Surgical from the early days through its IPO. Then the Miami biomedical engineer took the plunge with his own robotics startup, Neocis.
